"A show of heroic preportions" (Vince & Katniss)

Vince Ryder the white mighty morphin power ranger walked into the Angel Grove youth center. He was wearing white cargo pants with a black T-shirt and black and white converse. Around his neck he had the pocket watch his parents had given him a year earlier on his 15TH birthday when they were killed in a monster attack. Vince from the corner of his eye could see Ernie giving him a slight wave and smile as a silent way to welcome him back. Vince had not been back to Angel Grove since he lost his parents. Vince as he sat down at an empty table patted his deep pocket to make sure his morpher was there. He then looked at his communicator and nodded to himself. He then stood up and walked over to Ernie and ordered a Garden burger and a strawberry banana smoothie and went and sat back down.

"It has been a long time since I have been here. I wonder if they still have that Karaoke machine. Man I hope I don't have to work today."

Vince sighed knowing that he would probably have to fight and protect the city. It was his job. Sadly his job did not leave room for a social life outside of the rangers. Maybe just maybe he would get lucky and find someone to spend time with.

Ah the weekend, Katniss loved school, but with all the work she did between homework and her week day job at the café, she was glad she had weekends off. Dressed in a white skirt and top, with a pair of bright lime green converse with dark blue shoelaces, she had grabbed her guatair and made it down to the Youth center, as she always did on the weekends to play music out in the back, where no one really was.
The place where the owner usually had the back door open for some air, did not mind her playing there, even if he did he never said anything. She took her guitar out of the case and sat there wondering for a moment what cover to play, or even play an original. With a slight shrugged she started to play, after looking around first that she hoped no one would noticed, and played. Kat, loved to perform when a script was handy, but it was her a little shyness that still yet to be broken.

“If I…ever…thought of you today…I would… dance the…night away…. If I…ever….saw you in my dreams tonight….I would know… that everything would be alright…I know…your.. there… beside me…. That’s all I want to know…you’re here, I’m there. Stars dance around us singing, I know your near…has the sun goes down and dreams appear….I know you’re here.”

She stopped, and grabbed her song book. “Something’s missing,” she muttered to herself putting a hand on her face in thought, as she began to twirl her hair around her fingers. “Problem is what…”

As Vince got up to get his food he began to hear a guitar. He thought that maybe it could have been just someone's headphones. He quickly ate his food but as he did he began to hear singing. This made him curious because it was a voice he had never heard before. He slowly stood and followed the beautiful voice to the nearby ally and blushed when he saw the beautiful red head twirling her hair. He smiled and listened to her own question. He stepped out slowly.

"Maybe a partner?"

Vince then stepped out gently with a smile and blushed looking her over. He walked over to her shyly and smiled softly again to her as he tried to think of something to say. He just blushed and decided to blurt it out.

"My Name's Vince Ryder and I must say that you have a beautiful voice and you play that guitar wonderfully. Do you think I could join you?"

He then moved next to her his pocket watch shining in the sun as he looked into her book reading the lyrics and smiled. She wrote her own music. He looked at her and held his hand out remembering that he forgot to ask her name.

"What's your name?"

Katniss continued to think. So that was the first verse? It seemed a mix of the chorus and verse one together…. Katniss looked up as something or rather someone interrupted her thoughts. She heard a voice behind her and turned around slightly, hearing the answer out loud to her own question. She stood for a moment, hesitant until she got a glimpse of his eyes. He did not seem like a threat or anything, but then again she never thought that. Kat bit her lower lip ever so lightly, now curious. This was a first someone approached her out here.

“Okay….um you write as well?” she asked, still slightly twirling her hair out of habit.

She studied the guy in front of her. He looked about her age, if not a possible year older then her, and he was completely taller then her. Then again everyone was taller than her, as she only stood a mere five feet and two inches.

“Um thank you… I’m Katniss James.” She replied, trying not blush. He was cute, though she was not to like someone for only there looks. She was much deeper then that. “And sure. Um maybe you could help me on the chorus or a verse?” she replied, quickly sitting back down, and attempting to tuck a piece of her hair behind her ear, but somewhat fail into her eyes ever so slightly.

Vince blushed at the sweet girl as he read her song over and over again. He began to imagine the tune his mind as he tapped his foot gently keeping the tempo. He then shut his eyes imagining the staff and the notes floating around them as he hummed the tune in his mind. It was slow and loving like the songs his own mother once sang to him. After a moment he opened his eyes and decided to sing her the verse he had thought of.

"Alone in the dark, your love shined through. Every day you love me seems oh so brand new. This dance we do, I would day the whole day through because time stands still when I am with you."

Vince then blushed as he watched Kat Stand up from bending over and her hair fell in front of her face. He gulped a small gulp and gently reached out and brushed the hair gently behind her ear his hand for just a moment resting on her cheek. He just looked into the beautiful girls eyes unsure of what to do next so he acted on impulse. He began to move in nice and slow to kiss her but as he began moving he heard a familiar scream and groaned and pulled away urgently.

"I have to go take care of something please stay here where it's safe..please Kat..just wait for me."

Vince then took off out of the ally seeing a large group of putties and a wizard looking monster attacking innocent people. Without a word Vince engaged the putties full of rage at losing what could have been.

Many random songs danced through Lil Red’s head, has she sat there, looking over her book. Shyness was starting to overwhelm her, which was very rare for her. She continued to twirl her hair with one hand, and she taps her pencil with the other, in thought. The current song she was looking at was not even in her head now. Katniss shook her head mentally, what was wrong with her, she had never lost focus this bad…okay she didn’t lose it when it came to music. Her mind came back to the present scene, when she heard his voice again.

“Oh! I love that!” she replied writing it down. She thought again, with a smile.

She picked up her guatiar and played another verse, using that as the chorus.
“These words, are true. Only for you… so I go sailing through. On and on my… way to you… These words are true.
Winter… so cold, summer heat… boy and….girl meet…in a sea of passing dre-eams.
‘Alone in the dark, your love shined through. Every day you love me seems oh so brand new. This dance we do, I would day the whole day through because time stands still when I am with you.’"

She smiled again and wrote it down. Before she could turn to him and thank him, he had brushed the hair that hid her face from him. It took her off guard but almost made her breathless. Her mind lost everything she had pulled together for the song, until and scream broke through the air and she looked up, standing quickly.

When he spoke, her own Katniss mind told her to follow, but whatever it was made her stop, as she watched him take off out the ally.

Her impulse, however, finally made her feet move. She wanted to help to! She put down her gutair and ran out of the ally, and stood where she saw the fight scene. Her big brown eyes looked around quickly, reconizing most of them, putties.

One had cornered another woman, and Kat, not thinking ran and kicked it in the side into a wall, telling the woman to run (which she did). Now normally She would not have done that, but Kat knew she had to help the innocent woman. She quickly looked aorund again, and what took her guard from a distance was Vince. Fighting?!?!

Vince let himself be circled by a group of putties unaware of Kat's arrival. As the Putties lunged at him he quickly and knocked their feet out from under them and quickly hopped across their chests like a game of hop scotch hitting the Z's making them shatter. He then grinned with a bit of a thrill as he ran at another group and jumped and kicked two down hitting them in the chest and then landed spinning on his back back to his feet. He then from the corner of his eye he saw a familiar tiny red head and quickly turned.

"Kat get out of here! It isn't safe for you here!"

As Vince turned to face Kat he notice the wizard type creature lurch forward his staff taking aim but it wasn't at him. It was at Kat! Vince on impulse quickly began running toward Kat as the wizard fired. Time seemed to slow down for Vince while without thinking he pulled out his morpher and held it out without hesitation.

"It's morphin time! Tigerzord!"

In a flash of white light Vince morphed and quickly pulled out his saber and got in front of kat and deflected the attack just standing in front of her not looking back as the putties vanished and the wizard stepped forward. Vince just spoke in a calm but assertive manner.

"Thanks for the assist but I need to take it from here. Get somewhere safe. I will be OK. Now get going..I don't want anything happening to you."

Vince then steadied himself as did the wizard. It was time for the real show to begin.

[katniss]

Katniss was completely entranced with everything around her. She was paralyzed. Not paralyzed with fear, but complete fascination of the whole fighting. She had often though about taking karate or kung-fu or something….which is and is not totally relevant to the image taking place. But that was literally Kat for you. Always open minded. She was all ways like that, well once in awhile, at the most spratic moments. Her mind, once again came back to reality when someone shouted her name! Oh yeah….Vince!

Where was he? Was he okay? How could she help?!? She hoped he was not hurt. She began looking around, maybe thinking about finding a place to hide well until she could think properly.

She had not noticed the monster’s aim at her… until now. She blinked her brown eyes several times, before not taking a blink. Everything stopped: the wind, voices around, everything. So this was it- no! A flash before her eyes, what she was expecting to see was Vince (has everyone else already had fled)…but again no! THE WHITE RANGER, first generation?!?!?!?!!!
Before anything was said and done, and even after he spoke..take a guess…no she did not run, scream, or anything. She passed out, fainted more like it.

Vince just heard a loud thud. He quickly turned his head to see Kat on the ground. All of the excitement made her faint. Vince groaned hard and quickly scooped her up and quickly ran and placed her to the side against a brick wall where she would not get hit. Vince then quickly ran at the wizard saber in hand. The wizard met his blade with his own staff and sparks begin to collide. Vince quickly jumped back and kicked the wizard hard making him stagger. The wizard retaliated by firing several shots and Vince which he dodged by barrel rolling out of the way.

Vince had to end this fast. He had to keep kat safe so he could kiss those soft lips when she..NO this was not the time to get distracted by his feelings! He had to save her and the city. Vince quickly shook his head and pulled out his blaster and held it in one hand while running at the wizard again slashing up at him cutting the staff in half. He then jumped back a little blasting the wizard into a wall making him explode.

Breathing heavily Vince powered down and walked over to Kat and scooped her up gently letting her head fall onto his shoulders as he took her back into the ally where they had met. He then sat her down just as gently but kept her propped up with his hand on her back.

"It's time to wake up now. No more sleeping silly girl."

He then just smiled a sweet smile knowing he would have questions to answer and a story to tell. He didn't care because he didn't want to leave her side.

It had been about real time twenty-minutes before Lil Red came around. She slowly opened her eyes, finding herself back in the ally. She rubbed the top of her head, wondering what just happened had been a dream or reality. Well this was no safe place in the world, she had seen it in her life, to far often, well mostly. Katniss was suddenly alert on what happen! She clearly had passed out, something that had never happened in her life (well unless you don’t count passing out in a play).
She stood quickly, which through her off balance a bit but she caught herself, “Oh my gosh! Vince!” it took her a minute before she felt someone, something beside her. She turned seeing him. “oh………….hi!”

She sat down. “Tell me that did not just happen! Where did that come from? Tell me everything! You’re a ranger? Omg! My goodness! You were so brave! I can’t believe you did all that! That was so amazing!” On and on she went kind of spazing about. She was overjoyed and excited and felt everything but anger, fear or worry. “You were just amazing! I can’t believe you would save lil me, like I’m nothing special, and like a complete stranger but still!” Her big brown eyes were bright of lil miss sunshine. She could not help but jump and hug him on an impulse, and gave him a kiss on the cheek. Suddenly she realized what she did….

“sorry…I usually…that….doesn’t usually happen……” She looked away/ down, feeling her face turn red, and played with the ends of her hair.

Vince smiled and laughed as she began to ramble on and on. He knew she would be excited but he had no clue about how happy she was that he saved her until she hugged him and then kissed his cheek. He blushed and smiled and twittled his fingers for a moment while he thought of where to start. He decided he should first ease his tension and get his inner feelings for her out. The reason he fought so hard.

"As for why I saved you other then it being my job..I like you a lot..I..like you enough to do this."

Vince then leaned in slowly placing his hands on her soft cheeks and kissed her slowly and softly for a moment. This was his first ever kiss. The first time he had shown love to anyone since his parents were killed. After a moment he ended the kiss and leaned back and looked her in the eyes blushing as he decided that it was the right move. He then decided he should start with his beginning.

"You see Kat, I am an orphan. I live in my teams command center so I can avoid foster care until I turn 18. I lost my parents a year ago during a monster attack. I lost them on my 15TH birthday."

Vince then rubbed his thumb over his silver pocket watch and then sighed and gripped it tightly for a moment to choke down the sadness he felt. He then looked back at Kat again and sighed.

"After their deaths I traveled to reefside where the current team of rangers is based and I wandered into their base by accident and found their oldest member who was the original white ranger for the mighty morphin rangers. He knew that I would do a good job so he passed his power onto me. So I am the new white ranger. I took an oath never to let what happened to me happen to anyone else. I am trusting you with my secret. Your the only non-ranger that knows."

Vince then blushed and looked down gently.

"So..what do you want to do now?"

Katniss could not believe that she had just did that. Why, why, why? She asked herself over and over again. She was the typical girl, who flirted, but not with just anyone. This was rare. VERY RARE. She continued to twirl her hair, has her mind raced to make up something for her action. Really? A cute guy? Of course he had to be a ranger…but she was happy! A little embarrassed now, but happy. It was a werid feeling, but she maybe thought it was just her mind again. She was not your usual girl.

She felt her face being lightly pulled, has his hands lightly touch her face bring her lips to meet his. It was nothing she ever felt before, a slight spark supplied a feeling of interest, or at least she thought so. Common sense mode: He was a stranger. She knew nothing about him but his name, he was the white ranger, and he liked music. Kat mode: none of that seemed to matter.

After he broke the kiss, she was still a little stun, but could feel her shyness overwhelm her. He began his story, or so she caught on. She looked down, her brown eyes sadded a bit. “I understand that,” she whispered, turning to sit right on the place she was sitting. “I mean not the monster attack but… I mean I lost my father when I was eight…stage four cancer…” she lightly shrugged. “But I am sure they are all happy in heaven. In a better place, you know?” she replied, not meaning for it to be a question. “I’m sure they are happy… and proud of you. I am…or I mean would be if I was them…”

Katniss nodded. “I promise. Your secret is safe with me. I’m sorry I did not listen to you. I sort of just have so much energy built up, and I love helping people, so yeah…I didn’t realize it was a monster…well I guess I didn’t think about it. I just kind of acted out of habit, I guess you could say.” She could feel herself ranting again, and apologized with a small smile.

Vince just leaned in and shook his head and kissed her again softly but this time quickly and stood and helped her to her feet with a smile and gently took off his pocket watch and hung it around her neck and then took her hand gently. He smiled at her and gently tapped his forehead against her playfully sticking his tongue out at her.

"I have an idea Kat. Why don't we put on a show for the juice bar! We could rock the house!"

Vince then smiled and let go of her hand did a quick moon walk and spun on his heels and posed and grinned. He then packed up her guitar and picked it up with her music and slid it inside the case and took her hand and hurried inside with a smile and sat her stuff down on their table and turned to her.

"I really wanna hear you sing on stage. I'll go up there with you if you want. I wanna get up there and sing and dance for people."

He then kissed her forehead softly and held out his hand to her. He just smiled reassuringly.

Lil Red let out a soft little laugh, with a smile, and looked down at her feet. “That was a really nice way to tell me to shut up,” she muttered, her face once again matching the shade of red her hair was. She tucked a loose piece of her hair behind her ear, and it took her awhile before she could have her brown eyes match his eyes. Something was happening and she could not really explain it…before her mind started to go into Kat-Land (a place where this is no violence and the world is at peace) she felt something around her neck. Her first thought…Ooo! Pretty! but considering well this time, she thought before she spoke, simply smiled. A confused smile, but one all the same.

She looked up at his excited-ness and backup slightly, looking down when he mentioned they should sing together. “Err see about that…unless his usually in a script…I mean I just don’t volunteer and err what’s the word… I just don’t sing or anyting in public randomly…like yeah…” she shyness began to over take her. She didn’t know how to explain it but without a script (like for a play or something) she felt she couldn’t perform unless it was planned out.

Kat had followed him inside, with her stuff, not like she had a small choice, until he spoke again. There were quiet a few people around now, especially after the monster attack the mere thirty minutes ago. Oh the joys of Angel Grove.

Vince just smiled and shrugged gently when she said she never sang randomly to people. Vince smiled and kissed her forehead gently and hugged her close feeling the slight chill of his watch which he had passed off to her. He then looked at the music machine and nodded and sat down next to her. He didn't want to cause her to feel bad. He took hold of her hand and motion to the machine showing that he was going to sing. He then headed up and began to sing "Bad" By micheal Jackson while dancing like the singer himself. When he was done people stood and cheered and Vince then went and sat back down and poked the watch.

"I wanna tell you about that watch. It was the final gift my parents gave me before they died. Take good care of it.So,What do you want to do now Kitten? Eat or what? The plans are up to you."

As Vince looked at Kat his eyes locked on the necklace and he pouted gently and just scooped up her stuff and looked at the door his eyes looking full of grief. He had one last place to visit today. He was going to visit his parents. He just began walking for the door. As he did he looked back at Kat tears streaming down his cheeks.

"Let's go see my parents."

He said this with a tone that sounded like he was being choked. He just motioned for the door and walked out.
