Chelsea opened her eyes slow. She was afraid that if she did it any faster, she would see where she was, and she was not ready to do that yet. She wanted to stay here in the dark, deep within herself where she knew that she was safe and free from danger. Here in herself she could be happy, she could do and think whatever she wanted. Here she did not have to face the world, a world that so far, had been nothing but cruel and hateful to her.
She had escaped here many times of course. For a long time, it was her way of coping, of escaping from the harsh reality that was her life. Eventually though, she had found other ways to escape, and she was pretty sure that that was the reason she was where she suspected she was.
The memories came rushing back to her all at once, threatening to overwhelm her dangerously. There were flashes. One of a knife, one blood dripping from her own body, one of Tommy banging on a door and finally bursting through it, and finally one of Tommy picking her up effortlessly in his arms. She could even smell the blood and the sweet smell of his body as he craddling her to his chest, crying. And she could hear the loud thumping bass of the music she had turned out to muffle and potential screams from her.
All of these things assaulted her at once and almost sent her back down that black spiral towards oblivion. She tried to move her arms to clutch her face in horror, to cover it in shame, but found that she could not. They were attached in some way to the bed she was laying in, and that confirmed it. She was in the hospital an they had restrained her to keep her from doing more harm to herself. Had she been that bad? Did they have to sedate her?
There was only one way to find out. She forced her eyes open, almost shrinking back from the bright glare coming from the florescent lights in her room. Yep, it was a hospital room alright. Now what the heck was she going to do?
