Alice moved through the crowd on the beach with ease. No one even took notice of her, for which she was grateful. Her stomach growled, reminding her that she hadn't eaten for a while. She looked around furtively. Man, I need some food! she thought to herself. But where could she get some? Her eyes darted left and right. She needed to find a place that she hadn't stolen from recently. The last thing she needed or wanted was to be popped by the cops. She let out a small sigh as she considered her options. She was near the beach, so her pickings were a little dicey, but there was always the vendors nearby. Yeah, that sounded good. With a grin, she quickened her pace slightly, but kept her gait normal so that she didn't attract attention.
Presently, she reached the vendors. She watched them as she approached, eyes narrowed in concentration. Timing. That was the key. Timing was everything. If she made a move too soon or too late, she'd be discovered and have no food for her trouble. She pursed her lips as she looked from one vendor to the next. What did she feel like today? Her stomach grumbled again and she tried to ignore it. Okay, she got the picture. It wanted to be fed. She just needed to figure out what she wanted. She looked to the vendors on the left and saw one of them making nachos. Score, she thought. This guy made the best nachos in town. With a grin, she headed towards him, making sure she blended in with the crowd.
Even though she was starving, Alice forced herself to stay in the crowd as people went up to the nacho vendor one at a time. This wasn't the right time to make a move. She didn't have a good enough cover. She watched patiently as people continued to walk up to the man. Okay, no nachos today, she decided. She then went further down the beach, periodically checking a vendor for an opening. She finally found one at the vendor for pretzels. It was crowded and the guy looked completely overwhelmed. She walked towards him, making sure that she didn't draw attention to herself as she came up behind the line. Staying out of the vendor's line of sight, she snagged a pretzel that had been laid out and then silently walked off. Once she was far enough away, she took a bite of the pretzel and moaned blissfully.
"Now this is a score," she muttered to herself.
